The Pearl Curtain

12:07 PM

First post after New Year!

---

So, after I'm done with "Big Fish and Begonia", I stumbled upon this Chinese singer in Youtube called Henry Huo. I immediately fell in love with his voice (and also his appearance) and also his self-composed song with the title 卷珠帘 (Rolling Up The Beaded Curtain).

I did some research on what the song is about and it turned out to be a song about how a lady is waiting for her loved one to appear. According to what usually happened in old Chinese movies, the ones that are about the Three Kingdoms (or maybe other subjects too), ladies are usually got carried in a carriage with curtain to go around the city. Also during the traditional wedding ceremony, the bride's face is covered by a curtain-like headpiece. Then when the groom came, he will open that "curtain" to see his bride for the first time. That's what legend said and they still do that sometime until now.

I got hooked by this concept where women are always covering their 'face', their true identity. Also, since it's a Chinese song, why not make another Chinese artwork? It's always fun to create Chinese art. Recently, I actually got inspired by so many Chinese artists on how they use colors in their artworks. Not only photo works, but I also looked up into the ancient painting works as well. There's a certain feel that I get from seeing Chinese arts. It feels like... strong and firm, yet ethereal and graceful. It looks complicated, but if you see it through, it was so simple. That's how I feel about Chinese art.

Anyway, for this work, I found my model in Instagram. I was looking at Korean photographer's feed and found this girl among his works. At first, I didn't think that she looks Korean. Her looks are between a Japanese and Chinese look. So I contacted her and she said yes to my offer. Great!
Now, the problem is the location. I don't want to use palaces or the same location as "Big Fish and Begonia", also I can't find any spots in Seoul that resembles China. However, I found this great park I've never been to and it has a pavilion in the middle of a small pond. So, when the day of shooting came, both me and my model were awed by the view. We didn't expected that place to be so perfect for this concept. I guess I'm lucky again.

I always in those American or Korean fashion style whatsoever but not my own country. Hmm.. Well, finally I got a chance to do it. It's actually for my uni project but I thought it's good enough to be my portfolio as well.

This is another collaboration shots with my friend AWT but this is one more like... we-want-to-shoot-more after the RENOIR pieces are done lol. Seriously, having a stylist for a photoshoot like this is super helping. You see the picture that Kath wears a flowery skirt? The top she used is also a skirt! Our stylist put some magic to it. HAHA.

Since there are too many photo shoot I had, I really can't decide which one I should post first. Huff..
Anyway, it's CHRISTMAS EVE today! YAY!

Stay tuned for tomorrow. I'll post something really cute and pretty :)

CELINE IS BACK

8:48 AM

Finally, after a it-looks-like-a-long-back, she's FINALLY BACK!
My favorite friend and model for my portfolio, (drum rolls), CELINE!

You might have seen her somewhere in my works, yes, she did it.. mmm.. a couple times? I don't think so. It was since loooong time ago, when I was still a high-schooler, she had been my model since then.
I still remember our first photo shoot is about fallen angel and puppet-like. It was soooo ridiculous for me to have that kind of works which happens to be my final project in IB Diploma. Well, life must go on right? Haha.

Then our next shots is more like.. I forgot, Harajuku girls? Ah yes! Harajuku girls and more like Bella Swan-mood and vintage. I guess I have myself in the right track because I'm starting to have more fashion taste there. Geez. I also remember that day, it was an outdoor session and it started to rain. Oh yeaaah baby. That's why we need to wrap it up really quick, however, the photos turned out AWESOME!

The thing is, what I really like from Celine is that her face have 'its' mood. HAHA. I bet you don't get it. It's like this, she can do REALLY FIERCE face, DEPRESSED gloomy face, CUTE face, SEXY face, DREAMY face, and many more. She almost did it all. It's her talent and I super love it. Don't you, photographers? It's a bit hard to find someone that can do so many moods in every picture.

OK. Back to the Harajuku thing. Hmm.. After that, we did that IU-inspired theme with more sorrow pictures. And now, she do it again with a different theme and a little bit of twist.

Well, I should stop talking and just let you guys watch the teaser.

Enjoy!
